Following are brief details of the current status of building our new Museum at Margate.

Present Status: Mid-June 2010

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION:

Overall building construction is being managed by our Building Sub-Committee.

Those driving past will have observed some "on ground" activities.

AURORA has now buried the power lines underground - as well as removing them from our 'vision lines', their removal also allows us to utilise the front corner of our block - thus gaining more area for the required parking etc.

The changeover to the underground cabling and removal of the present overhead wiring is due in the next week.

Infrastructure work - including block levelling, carpark and building preparation, storm water, sewerage mains and surrounding roadworks are due to start very shortly - the contract is currently being finalised for a 'short term' start in early July.

LOCKUP:  The building should be to "Lock-up" stage during August/ September so we are able to work on such as the internals of the Library, Shop, Workshop and Storerooms and internal fitout.

DISPLAYS:

Our Display Sub-Committee has been working on the overall planning of the various areas and the overall planning of display layouts.

They have been planning the various display locations, functional operations within the Library, Workshop and Storage areas and 'overall themes' within the Museum. Tyey have also taken the opportunity to formalising the various 'Policies and Procedures' for the storage of our collection.

As we progress, there will be opportunities for you to assist in the preparation of the various individual displays via various Display Working Groups which will work in association with the Display Sub-Committee.

INFORMATION RETRIEVAL:

We also have an Information Retrieval Group which is organising the means by which information is ensured to be made available as required to support the displays and any other overall Museum requirements.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT:

Another Working Group which has been formed is our Technical Support Group - whose task is to ensure whatever 'display facilities' are required are able to be provided 'on the ground'.  This involves the electrical/ electronic control system design, equipment selection and/ or manufacture and onsite implementation.

This includes all aspects requiring Technical support such as lighting and environmental control, sound and vision 'supply on demand' and overall logging of the conditions under which the exhibits are displayed and/ or stored.

If you have an interest in any of the above areas and in assisting us with the establishment of our new Museum please do not hesitate to contact us - you will be welcomed.
