New Margate Site Update

Our future path to “Explore the Past”

Sod turning day Thursday 8th October:

On Thursday 8th October the "first sod" was turned on our new site by the Hon. Lara Giddings MP,

                                    - Deputy Premier, Attourney-General, Minister for Justice,Minister for Health

Following are some photographs of the day: Firstly, the overall site of the new museum

                    - at the old quarry at the Southern end of Margate township:

Due to the pending inclement weather an 'emergency shelter' was set up (complements of the Dutch-Australia Society):

The rain ensured a need for some 'preliminary plumbing' prior to the arrival of the day's guests:

The Margate Hall was also prepared for a morning tea after the turning of the sod:

Jim Waldie's spade - to be used for the sod turning by Lara Giddings - is examined by Phyl Norton and Roger McGinniss:

The sign on the spade describes its historical connections from the old to the new Museum sites:

Our Mayor, Graham Bury came prepared and also brought along his nice new spade.

It was, of course, decided that Jim's was to be utilised - due to its Museum connections:

Our President - Mike Jackson explains to Lara the need to turn the sod "precisely in the correct location"

       - otherwise she would have to dig into solid rock!

Our President, Mike Jackson, briefly covers the Museum's History and introduces Lara

Lara welcomes Dignitaries, Guests and Committee Members and explains the Government's support for the project:

And the first sod is turned:

And congratulations all round for the 'first hole in the ground':

With congratulations to our Curator - Phyl Norton:

We look forward to seeing you at YOUR Museum as it develops:          Return to TOP
