“Explore the Past”

The Channel Heritage Museum is managed by the Channel Historical & Folk Museum Association Inc.  Members are drawn from all sections of the Community, with a common interest in the history of the Channel area.

The Association aims

to promote & preserve the history of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel area from Margate south to Gordon.

Displays , Exhibits & Information include: 

•   Unique collection from the Electrona Carbide Works.
•   Timber industry.
•   Boat building & shipping in the Channel.
•   Fruit growing & farming.
•   1967 Bush Fires.
•   School records & photos.
•   Social & historical memorabilia & information.
•   Colonial style kitchen, bedroom, bathroom & wash-house.

Facilities include:

• A library with a collection of books, photographs, maps & newspaper clippings relating to Channel history. This library can be used for research into family history, local history & school projects.

• Special programs for school groups by arrangement for the students to learn about their heritage.

• Visits from community & tour groups can be arranged.

• There is easy access for the elderly & disabled.
